ANDREW MULLINS

REDUCTION: SPECIALIST TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT

“We’re always striving to do the best we can – whether that’s to do with our processes or the environment.”

Andrew started as a graduate

He now works in the reduction department where he analyses key metrics to make data-driven decisions about NZAS processes.

While the smelter still uses the original Hall-Heroult technology from the 19th century, Tiwai’s end-product is anything but old school.

“Our innovative, ultra-high purity product isn’t special due to the equipment used, it’s special because of the people using it.”

25 years of historic lab monitoring and reporting data

Constant monitoring and reporting, for the whole site, shows how the people at Tiwai have taken care of the environment.

“Whether that’s the groundwater monitoring and testing around our landfill or around our spent cell lining piles – we’ve got a lot in place to make sure we’re doing better everyday.”

“Everyone’s got their own way of improving things and looking after the environment – that’s what makes us who we are.”

Ultra-high purity aluminium

Tiwai’s ultra-high purity aluminium, is in part attributed, to their sustainable production process and use of high quality raw materials. But it’s the people, their innovative spirit and the generational knowledge, that’s still shared and learned from, 50 years on, that defines both their product and their place.
