EXTERNAL RELATIONS: COMMUNITY RELATIONS OFFICER
“Everyone looks out for each other.”
Andrea only expected to stay at Tiwai for a couple of years
Nearly three decades later, she says the culture of care, the variety, in every day, and seeing first-hand the large impact their small community has had is what’s kept her here.
“I’ve never worked in a place that looks after the people like they do at Tiwai. Not just the company, but the people themselves, too.”
Community and national investment
$54 million dollars is spent, each year, in the community and an additional $82 million in salaries and over $400 million nationally.
Tiwai’s contribution to both the national economy and the world is in addition to the varied and increasingly vital role Tiwai plays in supporting the local community, via partnerships, initiatives and sponsorships.
"Tiwai has been the major sponsor of the Southland Science and Technology Fair for a few decades now. Tiwai’s long-term partnership with Southland Girls High was designed to encourage women into the industry, which has been successful every year, too".
“The really heartening thing is that nearly half the girls that have come through our Southland Girls High Partnership have gone on to study engineering.”
The global impact of NZAS starts locally
For Andrea it’s also about the impact they have, all the way down here, at the bottom of the world.
